Sevier County Tourism Numbers Down

According to WBIR of Knoxville, tourism numbers are down for many attractions in Sevier county, along with the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Spokespeople for the Great Smokies announced recently that it is down by about 500,000 visitors compared to last year. Dollywood and Splash Country are reportedly both down by at least 5 %, too. Pete Owens, a Dollywood spokesperson, said that people are spending less once they get inside the theme park, too.

The Smoky Mountain Speed Park has also had fewer visitors this summer. But manager Jayson Ottinger is expecting numbers to go back up for the end of the summer.

The only exception? The Wilderness at the Smokies resort in Sevierville, which is reporting more sold-out nights than in the past three years.
