Free Music at Gatlinburg Songwriters Fest

The City of Gatlinburg is happy to announce its first ever Smoky Mountains Songwriters Festival, which will be held in just a few weeks. The festival will take place on Thursday through Saturday, Aug. 23-25.

The public is invited to lots of (mostly) free live entertainment at several venues in downtown Gatlinburg.

According to the Smoky Mountains Songwriters Festival website, the goal of the festival is to:

The Smoky Mountains Songwriters Festival is a platform for songwriters to perform their original songs and attend workshops to help learn the craft of songwriting as well as guidance on “how” to get the songs published. The Songwriter / Artist not only performs but tells you the story behind the song. You will recognize many of the “hit” songs presented by the songwriters. It is one of the most entertaining shows you will ever see. The mission of The Smoky Mountains Songwriters Festival is to promote songwriters and to help their songs to be discovered while we enjoy “Celebrating our Appalachian Musical Roots”.

Some of the music will be performed at the Ole Smoky Moonshine Hollar Stage, Dick’s Last Resort, the Quality Inn Creekside Banquet Room, the Hard Rock Cafe, Loco Burros, and more. For a complete schedule, visit the website here.

Visitors can expect to see several current top writers, such as Bill Labounty, Kim Williams, Bobby Tomberlin, Mark Nesler, and many more.

The highlight of the festival will be the SMSWF 2012 Songwriters Competition Finale and Award Night Performances at the Edgewater Hotel. There will also be various workshops for songwriters.
