I love to travel! To me, there’s nothing like the feeling of leaving it all behind and hitting the road for intense family time. The unknown, the unpredictable: you can’t beat it.
That’s really how CabinConnection.com was born. My husband’s family has spent an enormous amount of time falling in love with the Smoky Mountains and Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Since I’ve been a part of the family, I’ve gotten it in my blood, too. You can breath deeper and smile easier in the mountains.
My sister and her husband visited Gatlinburg on their first anniversary. It got in their blood, too. Over and over again, we hear the same thing. People LOVE to vacation in this area! It’s all about family and spending time together, nature and entertainment and good food, all in one.
My purpose with this blog is to share pointers and tips about the area with others who may want to visit. I’ll have guest bloggers from time to time, but for the most part, it’s my voice you’ll be hearing. I’m passionate about seeing people connect and plan easy, stress-free vacations. I hope I can help you plan an ideal Smoky Mountains getaway.
So, who am I? Let’s see — I’m a mom of two. I teach at a local college part-time. I’ve been married to my husband for 10 years. I knew him when I was 10, but reconnected when I was 18. It was pretty much love at first sight at that point (but definitely not when I was 10…). I love light — the brighter, the better. I’m addicted to fiction — you know, the best-seller kind. I love learning about people’s stories. I laugh a lot. I have a hard time sleeping a whole night through. I worry too much about what people think. I cry when I get mad (which is rarely). I’m really bad at staying in touch, but wish I was better. In a nutshell, I guess that’s who I am.
And since I’m the primary blogger, I think it’s only fair that I introduce my team members, right? (I wonder, do they have privileges to edit this? I’m still figuring out this “blogging” thing.) My husband, Jason, is tall and dark and handsome. Really tall, like, 6 foot 6. Really. He’s serious, but can be really funny if he’s with people he knows well. He loves chocolate milk and will never turn down chocolate chip cookies. Jason is scary-competitive. He’s serious about winning. But he has this amazing soft side that I see when he thinks I’m not watching him with our kids. I love the way he loves on them and talks to them like they are just little people. He’s taught me a lot about parenting. He likes corny TV shows. You’d never guess it, but he’s really picky about what he wears. He likes to sport designer tennis shoes. He smiles quickly. It takes awhile to get to know him.
Megan Anderson is my baby sister, but also my best friend. How to describe her — well, I guess you could say she’s pretty much the opposite of me. She LOVES details. Everything at her house is perfectly in order and perfectly in place and makes perfect sense. She makes life look easy. Megan has a very classic style, but always wants to be more daring. She’s one of the most determined people I know. She can be very serious, but if you make a silly face at her, you can almost always make her laugh. She is loyal to the extreme. She’s almost always up for anything, even though she’s essentially a very planned-out person. She always has a good snack at the house, even if she has no idea you’ll end up there. She doesn’t feel like a younger sister because she has so much natural wisdom about life.
Chris and Megan fit together amazingly well. Where Jason and I are passionate and scattered, they are thorough and put-together. We compliment each other well, but sometimes drive each other crazy. Chris is probably the glue that makes it work. He’s always good for a laugh, but is a very serious thinker, too. He gets the kids wound up and makes silly promises. He’s always getting himself in trouble with his wife. But she just laughs and rolls her eyes. Chris is very protective of those he loves. He loves experiences and like Megan, loves to be on the go. He never, ever, ever sits still. He gets more done during a 2-hour period than I sometimes accomplish in an entire day. He doesn’t mind making messes, but is really good at cleaning them up. He’s a team player. Chris, I’m just learning, is a very accomplished peace-maker.
So that’s us — together, we make up CabinConnection.com. Our actual site will be going live sometime late spring. So check back — I’ll keep you updated!
In the meantime, I hope to give you first-hand knowledge on food, entertainment, wildlife and basically, everything Gatlinburg. It should be a lot of fun! Please, leave comments and add to ideas as you wish! Though we’ve spent a lot of time in the area, there are many more things to experience! We’ve just began…
Here’s to adventures and time together!
