Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it! I'm planning to make a "Park Journal" for each of my kids this summer. We're going to visit every park in our county, then I'll have the kids journal about each of them. We'll draw pictures, rate them on different aspects, and find nature keepsakes from each.

I love the idea of the blog, too! Thanks for your thoughts!

Great idea! When my kids were little, we did journals too especially on long trips. I will always treasure those journals. Another thing that we did that we all loved was keeping a Nature Journal. We kept these over a period of several years, and you could really see both their writing skills and their artistic abilities improve over the years. Living close to the Smokies is a real asset for Nature Journaling, but you can just as easily Nature Journal right in your own backyard. Another thing you might consider in the technology age is encouraging kids and teens to blog as a way of keeping a Nature Journal. You can always make the settings Private so only certain folks have access. That's what my Nature Journaling has progressed into. http://hikingtotheheights.blogspot.com/

Well, first of all, we buy gasoline on a regular basis in this 'no where' land. Sometime when you have 30 minutes, we'll drive you around (using our gas) to show you all of the possible places you can purchase gas within a 6 minute drive of the university where you teach.....

Second, I don't think it's unethical to run in and get your soda while parked at the pump. Maybe it's a factor of less traffic in our small town, but I have, on rare occasions, even parked at the pump without getting gas to run in and get a soda! Crazy people park in a million places around a gas station and my frustration sometimes spills over into doing something crazy like that. But if there are empty pumps and I'm only inside for 3 minutes, isn't it just a parking place that happens to have a pump there if you need it?

And I'm totally with you on hating to drive, back or park in a gas station parking lot.....Thanks for the fun of thinking through an ethical dilemma....

Nah.....Well, now that I think about it. You're a HORRIBLE person!!!!!!!!! Okay, just kidding. If the gas station isn't busy (meaning all the pumps are full and people are waiting), I see no reason to move your car. You're using gas to start the car and move it 50 feet, only to come back out in 2 minutes and start it again. Seems terribly inefficient to me.

So I vote for being chronically nice to the environment and not wasting gas to move your car a few feet.
